The purpose of the Perinatal Clinical Nurse Educator: Clinical Competencies and Education Guide is to promote knowledge and skill development within a framework grounded in learning principles, innovation, and andragogy. The guide was designed to provide structure to create PCNE learning-focused programs that are aligned with recommendations for education and competency requirements for nurse educators and NPD practitioners (Hawkes & Hendricks-Jackson, 2014; Halstead, 2019; Harper & Maloney, 2016) and to identify the entry-level core skills required to facilitate the following:

• Orientation and onboarding,

• Continuing education and competency management,

• Research and quality improvement,

• Program and project management,

• Regulatory and compliance initiatives, and

• Clinician professional development

This guide was also designed to serve as a resource to enhance the PCNE’s ability to offer education that targets quality improvement and safety programs for women and newborns, patient experience and satisfaction, and the ef?ciency and ef?cacy of health care.
